There's an update on the previous discussion of Paul Gess and the churches that continue to welcome him in their pulpits.
A survivor has shared her story of abuse by Paul Gess on the Substack Whispers to Roars. Please read the horrific account of abuse and Ethnos360/New Tribes Mission's complicity. According to this survivor, Ethnos360, then New Tribes Mission, knew about abuse multiple times over several decades and continued to restore him to the girls' dorm ministry in Bolivia, where he continued to abuse girls each time. It was upon his return to being a "dorm dad" for the third time that this survivor says he abused her. If Ethnos360 had done the bare minimum, her abuse by this man would never have occurred.
Even though churches are aware of his history of repeated abuse, they continue to invite him to fill their pulpits. This month, June 8, Byron Center Bible Church allowed him to preach, celebrating his years of "faithful" ministry in Bolivia. Would they say this to survivors, those he abused while entrusted with the role of being their caretaker? Would they insist on calling what he was doing in Bolivia faithful? Apparently they would because they refuse to acknowledge the harm caused when they celebrate this man and his "ministry."
