Listen to MKs, part 3

LISTEN TO MKSABUSECULTURENEWS

2/18/20251 min read

Two Ethnos360/New Tribes Mission MKs were interviewed by Stuff, a news website based in New Zealand, about their experiences as missionary kids.

One MK describes how kids were considered a distraction from their parents' work, a sentiment that has been frequently expressed by MKs, and even seems to be reinforced in the book "The Story of New Tribes Mission." This MK describes being told a dorm parent had groped young girls and being able to hear kids screaming while they were being punished. He shares how years later he connected with other MKs and came to believe there were seven pedophiles at the school he attended in Papua New Guinea alone. He details writing to every Baptist church in New Zealand with his concerns and being threatened with legal action by Ethnos360/New Tribes Mission for speaking out.

Another MK shares her experience at an Ethnos360/New Tribes Mission boarding school in Panama. She explains that the people sent to care for the kids at boarding school were the ones not "good enough for anything else," and how she cried herself to sleep. She describes being physically beaten, molested, and sexually assaulted while under the care of Ethnos360 and how leadership told her father not to pursue legal action against the perpetrator of the assault. She details the trauma she experienced as a result and how she was treated when she became pregnant as a teenager. She describes how the way the organization responded led her to believe it was her fault and how long it took her to realize it wasn't. She also shares the heartbreaking reality that some Ethnos360 missionary kids have died by suicide and being an MK who survived is something that shouldn't be taken for granted.

These MKs courageously relived their pain and publicly shared their stories, and, as a result, we we have another opportunity to understand the harm Ethnos360 has caused. Please read the article and listen to their stories.
